JOINT owner of Essex’s Wickford Angling Centre and life-time fisherman Richard (Ricky) Cook told us he thought the travelling market was a good idea: ‘We go to the people rather than they
come to us,’ he noted.Bulk buying for the show enables Wickford Angling Centre to offer the public better deals than ever before with brilliant prices.
Everything at the show is discounted, with special show prices not
in the shop, for example carp rods at just £10 and free-spool reels at just £15. When asked about faulty goods Ricky said changing them back at the shop was no problem. ‘You can’t expect to rip people off and not ruin
yourself. We have a good reputation for helping people and we are keen to maintain that,’ he said.

SITUATED just outside Norwich, the Brundall Angling Centre is a very well established business and is a real mega store boasting an 11,000 sq ft area with a thriving mail order business. Again another
big concern, bulk buying and giving great deals to their customers with a terrific back up service. They also see Tacklemania events as a welcome supplement to their overall turnover.
The Mail had our stand near the
shop’s cheerful crew who were all dressed in the camo gear. They were not only serving customers but also giving top class hints and advice on many waters. They even lent us demonstration items of tackle when we were asked by
the public about what they should use. Hopefully, time permitting, when we next go to Norwich we will visit the men from Brundall and go fishing with them.

SO WHAT do the punters reckon? People like you and other Mail readers who might have been stirred into attending by those bright adverts.Robert Gwynn and his son Steven didn’t come many miles
from Langford to the Stevenage, Hertfordshire, event. And listening to the vocal Roger Surgay at the Used Tackle stand, Steven said: ‘I’m keeping my hands in my pockets, the prices are unbelievable.’
Dad
didn’t need anything…. having fished for so long, he already had it all. But later in the day we spotted them laden with tackle. So what happened? Dad explained: ‘My gear will eventually go to him (nodding towards
Steven).’Steven shook his head, muttering: ‘I can’t believe the prices - we’ve filled the car three times already!’

ONE bonus of all this low cost, high value gear is that new anglers can getkitted out without breaking the bank. And the Mail found ample evidence of this at Tacklemania
events in 2004. On their way round as the tour moved on to Southampton, we found Pulborough AS officials - Steve Moulding (training officer), Paul Hazeldine (junior match manager) and Graham Yabby’ Knight (junior training
officer).
They were buying junior prizes for their match team. This was their second year at Tacklemania. So it’s been a good day again, right? ‘As always brilliant, I’m really impressed,’ said Steve.
He’d received a call the day before from a member of their junior match team who had visited Tacklemania the previous day, pleading: ‘Will you come and elasticate my pole on the way home, please?’
